Do you know the Tonka bean? Of plant origin, the Tonka bean has recently become an essential ingredient in gastronomy and is used in the preparation of sweet and savory dishes.

The Tonka bean comes to us from Latin America and grows in tropical environments. The harvest is done on the ground and the seeds are dried for almost 1 year. This explains its subtle aroma that sails between caramel and vanilla.

What does Tonka bean taste like? Sambavanilla tells you more about it in this article and to help you understand why this spice appeals to more than one, we offer you a quick and easy recipe.

The taste of Tonka bean

The Tonka bean has a relatively complex taste. We can describe it as a mixture of nuts and spices. You will find notes of almonds, vanilla, cinnamon and cloves among others.

The taste of the Tonka bean is very intense, so you should use it sparingly. Too high a dose of this spice will be toxic for your body, but properly consumed, it will help you fight fatigue and loss of tone.

In the kitchen, when preparing your meals, you can either infuse it and use water to prepare your dish or grate the Tonka bean (as with nutmeg). Do not worry ! Even in small doses, its sweet taste and aroma will enhance your preparation. It goes very well with chocolate, vanilla, coconut and fruit. If you are about to make a dessert, consider this ingredient with a spellbinding aroma.
